H e l p f u l T i p s ! Did you know that when you connect to the internet, others may be able to connect to your computer? This is done without your knowledge or consent. Your personal information could be compromised. Companies or dishonest individuals often load SPYWARE on your computer to track your computer habits and internet surfing. You can also get Spyware from attachments that have this threat embedded deep within a seemingly harmless program. You may not even know you are installing this menace! There are 2 additional types of threats you should be aware of. ADWARE and MALWARE  Companies, or dishonest individuals often load them to be destructive, or to "force" you to see ads that you would not normally consider viewing. You can also get these 2 threats from attachments, with the code embedded deep within a seemingly harmless program. You may not even know you are inadvertently installing these, either! Always be sure you have VIRUS PROTECTION, and that it is updated. We prefer Symantec Anti-Virus Suite for virus protection. Remember, to ensure total privacy, keep ALL your personal information on removable media. It is always prudent to have two copies of vital information. That way, if you ever do have a virus problem, you can rely on your backup if the file gets corrupted.
When you need computer
service, we hope you take advantage of SSCPC onsite service. However. if you use someone
else, please remember that any information (current or sometimes
previously erased) from your computer's hard drive may be attainable to
anyone that has access to your computer. From personal information,
like financial records and credit card numbers, to e-mail and passwords,
all can be potential targets! Please backup and erase your
private information if you take your computer in for repair. Also, be sure your technician
is reputable. If the technician has multiple certifications, then they probably do this for a living, and
have a reputation to uphold. |
